SailingClubManager is a sailing-specific club system. Boards that search SailingClubManager alternatives are usually not hunting for another generic membership website. They already have software that talks about boats, duties, and berths. The question is which jobs the next system has to carry this season, and which jobs a volunteer board can budget in public.
This page is a shortlist. It states what SailingClubManager’s own homepage describes, what Zeil has live, and what Zeil has only on a dated roadmap. It does not grade SailingClubManager’s interface, phone experience, or any AI feature. That teardown is still open with Product (cdr row 78).
Who this page is for
Volunteer commodores, membership chairs, race chairs, and treasurers at US yacht clubs and community sailing centers, in the September–February buying window. It is also for a board already on SailingClubManager that wants a written comparison before anyone spends a weekend moving data.
What SailingClubManager is genuinely good at
Say this first. The homepage at sailingclubmanager.com, read 2026-09-23, describes a sailing-niche product:
- Boats, owners, results, and trophies, plus a crew finder.
- Events and an integrated duty roster — volunteering, allocations, reminders, and swaps in the same application.
- Boat park, racks, and on-water moorings.
- Membership lists, with email and SMS, and response tracking.
- Invoicing for memberships, berths, bookings, and merchandise, with online payment gateways and direct debit named on the page.
- EPoS, stock, cards and key fobs, and access control for doors, gates, and barriers.
- Support and training, and a published UK office: Vectis Yard, Cowes, Isle of Wight.
That is a real sailing stack, not a garden-club template with custom fields. Clubs whose week runs on duty swaps, berth records, and a bar till have a coherent reason to stay.
A UK street address is a published fact. It is not a claim about support hours, US payment rails, or how many US clubs use the product.
The jobs that usually open the search
Volunteer clubs start this search when one of these is the 10pm problem:

If duty rostering, moorings, or door-and-bar access are the reason the club bought SailingClubManager, the honest alternative may be to stay. Zeil’s duty rosters are roadmap (beta 2026-10-15, auto-scheduler 2026-12-01). Marina slips and moorings are waitlist-only. Zeil does not run EPoS or gate access.

Best when: a volunteer-run US yacht club or sailing center wants membership, club-owned boat reservations, skipper eligibility, and crew in one place, with a price on the website and a free migration service.
Live today: membership roster, invitations, directory, and roles; club-owned boat scheduling with eligibility checks and database-enforced overlap prevention; certifications and endorsements that gate skippers; crew assembly (invite, request-to-join, discoverable crew); weather forecasts on reservations; NOAA tide predictions (separate from the reservation forecast); AI Sail Brief ("AI-generated advisory; verify before sail."); announcements and a weekly email digest; waivers with e-signature; guest registration; club-as-merchant dues via Stripe (off until an admin turns it on; no claim that any club has collected). 2. Stay on SailingClubManager
Best when: the homepage modules above are the club’s actual week — especially duty swaps, racks and moorings, invoicing with direct debit, or bar and gate access — and the board does not want a season on a partial replacement.
Staying is a complete answer. This shortlist exists so a board can choose it on purpose.
3. Clubspot — modern all-in-one sailing suite
Best when: the club wants a modern sailing platform that already covers regattas, scoring, membership billing, and often point of sale and marina, and will work through that vendor’s pricing conversation.
Clubspot is a primary modern sailing competitor. Do not describe it as racing-only. Public materials have not given us a dollar figure to print (last competitive notes 2026-07-07 / 2026-07-30). Re-verify before anyone prints a number. Do not invent one.

4. ClubExpress — generic association platform
Best when: the pain is a public website plus membership administration, and fleet, duty, and racing are light or already handled elsewhere.
ClubExpress is mature membership software used well beyond sailing. It is the wrong comparison if the club’s problem is boats. Use the live pages:
5. Spreadsheets, email, and Facebook
Best when: the club is small, the season is short, and the volunteer hours truly are affordable.

Pricing math the treasurer can run
Zeil (published): $99 / $199 / $349 per club per month. 60-day trial. Free white-glove migration. Starter card: under 75 members. Leave volunteer hours as a blank the board fills in. This page does not invent an hours-saved figure.
SailingClubManager (last checked 2026-07-07): priced on the number of active memberships; no public price list; quote, with monthly or yearly options in our competitive notes. On 2026-09-23 their /pricing path returned 404, and no current rate card was confirmed, so this page prints no dollar figure and does not claim SailingClubManager is cheaper or more expensive than Zeil. Ask for a written quote. Re-verify before anyone prints a number.

How to leave SailingClubManager without a fire drill
- SailingClubManager’s public materials, checked 2026-07-07, say clubs can export data for spreadsheet tools. Exact screens and filenames are [ASSUMPTION] — support docs are customer-gated. Confirm the path with the club admin on a mapping call. This page does not invent a click-path.
- Zeil’s white-glove service maps contacts and memberships, club boats, and qualifications (onto certification definitions the admin agrees). It is a service, not a one-click importer.
- These SCM areas are not imported: duty rosters, booking history, moorings, results, and SCM invoices. The admin can recreate forward bookings on the live reservation calendar if wanted; history stays in the archive. Duty, scoring, and marina are roadmap or waitlist, as dated above. SCM invoices are not a Zeil import. Dues collection is a separate live capability, off until an admin enables it — not a load of their invoice history. Renewal invoices are the dated roadmap item above.
- Zeil has no member-boat registry and no PHRF or sail-number column. Do not promise those as the place member-owned boats land.
- Interim data-handling terms for accepting a member export are still a Legal dependency (
cdrrow 26). The offer can be described here. Ops must not take custody of an export until that note is attached.
There is no public “how to export from SailingClubManager” guide yet, because the screens are unverified.
Decision checklist
- Which job fails today: club-boat booking, skipper clearance, crew, duty roster, moorings, bar/access, dues, website?
- Which of those are live on the next system, and which are a dated roadmap or a waitlist?
- Can the treasurer read the price, or is a quote acceptable?
- Who moves the data — vendor service, or volunteer weekends?
- What will we archive rather than pretend to import (duties, results, moorings, invoices)?
FAQ
Is this a bad review of SailingClubManager? No. A review that scored the product would need the teardown that is still open. This page is a shortlist of fit.
Can Zeil run our duty roster this month? Duty rosters are not live. Beta 2026-10-15, auto-scheduler 2026-12-01. If that roster is why you stay, staying is reasonable.
Can Zeil run our moorings or the bar? Moorings are waitlist-only. Zeil does not run EPoS or door access.
Will you migrate us? Yes, as a free white-glove service for the records listed above. Timeline depends on the export. Do not treat a weekend target as a guarantee, and do not cite usage stats.
