If you are searching for ClubExpress alternatives, you are usually not looking for another generic membership site. You are looking for software that understands boats, skipper credentials, crew, and racing without making the commodore stitch three tools together at 10pm.
This page is that shortlist. It is honest about what ClubExpress is good at, and clear about when a sailing-first tool is the better board decision. Zeil is one option. It is not the only one.

What ClubExpress is genuinely good at
Say it plainly so the board trusts the rest of the page:
- Breadth. Membership directories, dues workflows, events, and a club website in one generic association stack.
- Maturity. A long track record across many membership organizations, not only sailing.
- Familiarity. If your club already lives in ClubExpress, volunteers know the admin paths.
None of that is a reason to sneer. For a country club or an alumni association, that stack can be enough.
Where sailing clubs usually feel the gap
Generic association tools treat a yacht club like any membership organization. These are the sailing-side jobs that break first:

2. Clubspot, a modern all-in-one sailing suite
Best when the club needs a modern sailing platform that already covers regattas, scoring, membership billing, and often point of sale or marina operations, and is willing to work with quote-based pricing.
Treat Clubspot with respect. It is a primary modern competitor, not a racing-only tool.
Honest contrast, not a bash: Zeil publishes list pricing, offers a 60-day open trial, free white-glove migration, and the AI Sail Brief. Clubspot's public pricing was quote-based as of July 7 and July 30, 2026. This page does not invent a dollar figure for Clubspot.

3. SailingClubManager, a sailing-specific niche
Best when the club wants software that already models boats, duties, qualifications, and results in a sailing vocabulary.
SailingClubManager is an established sailing-specific tool. A full product teardown is still open, so this page does not assert UX, mobile, or AI comparisons, and it does not publish a head-to-head.
4. Stay on spreadsheets, email, and Facebook
Best when the club is tiny and seasonal, and the volunteer hours truly are affordable.

5. Other generic club and membership tools
Wild Apricot-class association platforms show up in the same pile as ClubExpress. The structural gap for sailing is the same: membership yes, boats, certifications, and RRS scoring no. They fit when the club is mostly social or dining and barely runs a fleet. This page does not invent a feature matrix for those vendors.
Pricing math the board can actually run
Zeil (published): $99, $199, or $349 per club per month. Starter is framed for clubs under 75 members (pricing card, September 22, 2026). The trial is 60 days. Migration is free. These are the three sellable plans.
ClubExpress (verified July 7, 2026): roughly $0.42 per member per month at 200 members or fewer, with lower rates at higher bands. A 400-member club is about $136 per month in platform fees before sailing bolt-ons. The figure is dated. If ClubExpress's public pricing page is gated when you check it, keep this number labeled with that verification date.
Clubspot: quote-based. Ask for a written quote that includes regatta fees if any.
Put the volunteer-hours cost next to the subscription line. This page does not invent a hours-saved number. Leave a blank for the board to fill in.
How to leave ClubExpress without a fire drill

- Export custom fields you use for boat qualifications, if you have them.
- Plan for boats, certifications, and endorsements to come from club spreadsheets. Confirm that against your own export. ClubExpress is a membership platform, not a first-class sailing object model for those jobs.

Decision checklist

- What jobs fail today: website, dues, boat booking, eligibility, racing, duty roster?
- Do we need published list pricing, or is a quote acceptable?

- How long is the trial, and is a credit card required up front?

Is Zeil a drop-in ClubExpress website replacement? Zeil is the club operating system for members, boats, eligibility, communications, and, when an admin enables it, dues. It is not a full dining, point-of-sale, or CMS clone. Keep the galley system you have.
Can you migrate us from ClubExpress? Yes. Free white-glove migration means we import the roster and fleet data you can export, plus the spreadsheet side for boats and certifications, and we walk setup. The timeline depends on how complete the export is. A first reservation weekend is an operational target, not a contractual guarantee.
